Government
Equatorial Guinea's government is a Presidential Republic. It consists of a President, Prime Minister, Senate and House. The president gets elected every 7 years, and can hold 2 terms in office. Currently, the President of Equatorial Guinea is Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo. Compared to the President of the United States, the President of Equatorial Guinea has more power over the country. In their constitution, it states "all executive authority goes to the President." This gives the president the power to choose the Prime Minister and parts of the Senate. The Senate is composed of 70 seats, 15 of which are appointed by the President; the other 55 seats are elected. The House is made up of 100 seats, which are elected by vote. The House holds their seat for a 5 year term. Due to the fact that the President holds most of the power, the House and Senate have very little power in running the government.
